Is it possible to link Access to a customized program?

Hello,
I don't have much experience with Access, but I was wondering if it possible to link data stored in a program like CardScan to Microsoft Access?

If so, is there a command or extension I need to be using to achieve this?

The idea I have is to call stored data CardScan to a MS Access form.

Hi flower,

I don't have any experience with CardScan, so forgive me if my response is way off base.

Does CardScan have an ODBC connection? If so, you can link to the data using the Link Tables option (File -> Get External Data -> Link Tables).

Just in case you aren't familiar with ODBC connections or aren't sure how to check if a connection exists, (Assuming a Windows-based Operating System) go to your Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources(ODBC) and then check under the User or System tabs for a data source.

If it's there, when you choose the Link Tables option, you'll change the 'Files of Type' selection at the bottom of the dialog box that appears.

I don't have CardScan in my computer so I can't really do much with it.
But to solve my proble, someone exported the CardScan data into an excel file and I linked that file to a table in Access and created a query. From that query, I'm pulling out information.
I see the inconvenience of doing this, but I can't do much without the CardScan software.

Cool...if you're familiar with linking, then if you get CardScan, or at least gain access to the ODBC for the database that CardScan uses it will be a piece of cake for you to link to it instead of the Excel file.

You may not need the cardscan software. I stress may, as it varies greatly between softwares. Some software will only require the odbc driver installed to allow you to set up your own odbc connection. My advice would be to check out odbc connections on the softwares own site. They may have information posted.
