How to add a Winsock Control

I'm working in MS Access 2003. I'm trying to figure out how to add a Winsock Control. I'm looking all over and I don't see anything like that on the toolbar or on the "insert" pull down menu.

How do I add a Winsock control to my form?

    Thanks.

If you open the Toolbox toolbar there is an option to select More Controls. This is a humungous list which includes, if you look carefully, Microsoft WinSock Control Version 6.0 (SP6).

    Have fun :)

      Hi Jim

This is far from my area of expertise but as I understand it the winsock control is not bundled as standard in MS Access. It is in VB and I believe in Access developer edition.

All I can suggest for now is you look at something like this free dll. I can't actually recommend it as I'm totally unfamiliar with it.

I'll ask a couple of our experts more familar with networks and the api to take a look and maybe they can recommend something.

I'm not seeing that control Ade. What version of Access have you got installed currently?

          Access 2003 Mary.

It's a pretty large list of course, so not too easy to finds at the best of times :D

If it's not in your list then I suggest you Google for that name (Microsoft WinSock Control Version 6.0 (SP6)). At least you know the full name to start with. If it's something I've added after the fact, then I certainly don't recall what it came with I'm afraid.

BTW I found it alphabetically just after Microsoft Web Browser.

Definitely not on my list Ade. You might have it because of some other installation you have.

Mary prompted me and I think it must have come with a version of Visual Studio that I have installed.

Just had a thought while chatting with Ade. Try installing the Visual Studio package. I suspect it will be bundled in there. It should appear on the ActiveX list after that.

LOL! Ade we have to stop doing this, it makes the threads very long and confuses the public.

Ah, but what could be better for a thread than the concerted attention of the forum's two most prolific experts :D

Tweedle-Dum & Tweedle-Dee keep popping unprompted to mind!

No problem for the long thread, the public has actually been educated by the process. :)

                          Hey Jim

Just so you know, he's Dum and I'm Dee LOL.

If you figure out which of our guesses is correct can you update the thread.

                          Thanks

Just a bit of followup, I was having a terrible time getting this started, but found out today why my registration of the Active/x control was not working in Vista 64-bit. The thing has to be in c:\windows\wow6 4, not system32.
