what validation rule can be used to show :we cannot enter a data in a field, when another field does not have data.for example we can not enter details of a person untill we dont enter his name.

If you don't mind waiting for the record to save, then you can set it in the table's Validation Rule property (Open table for design / View Menu / Properties).

If it's important that it cannot even be entered then you could handle the state of control A (In the OnCurrent and AfterUpdate event procedures) and set the Enabled property of control B accordingly.

Does this sound like a viable solution for you?
