Hi dahmb. Rankdate is presumably a combobox or listbox control - you do not say so in your question - otherwise there is no column property which would apply.

Columns are numbered from 0 - so Me![Rankdate].Column(10) is referring to the 11th column in your combo or listbox. Does this exist? If it doesn't, trying to assign the value of a non-existent column to EmployeeID will cause an error.

You can check that the combo or listbox is actually available when your code runs by setting a breakpoint in your code and inspecting the values of local variables, or by simply typing the following in the immediate window:

    Code:
    ? forms![your form name]![RankDate].Column(10)

Are you sure that the control "RankDate" is set as a list or combo box? From what you say it's acting like a text box.
