    A2003 Append Query problem/question

I am using A2003, SP3. If I use the QueryBuilder and select a table and
drag the fields to it and then select Query/Append from the menu as the
type of query, the first table name (alphabetically ) never, ever shows
up. I have to create a junk table..I may copy an existing table to a
name like AAA...and then the second table in the alphabetical list will
    show up.

Ex: If I have tables A, B, C, and D and I select table B and want to
append it into A, the table A doesn't show up in the drop down list.

Is it my version/copy of Access that has this problem or can you
duplicate this problem on your PC as well?

    Re: A2003 Append Query problem/question

This is a bug in Access 2003 SP3. We have it listed here:
List of new bugs in Microsoft Access 2003 introduced by Service Pack 3 for Office 2003.

Hopefully you have applied Microsoft's hotfix for A2003 SP3:

From memory, I don't think it addresses this issue.

I suspect you can type in the name of the table, even though it doesn't show
in the drop-down list. Certainly you can type the name into the INSERT
    clause in SQL View.

Yes, I had tried typing the table name in earlier and that worked. It
simply was disconcerting not to see the "true" values that should have
      been listed.

I was first asked to update to SP3 via Dell updates a while back. I
never updated to SP3 via Dell. So I have to assume MS decided to bypass
my decision and update my computer thru the Windows updates.

One thing that gets my goat with Windows updates is that it does my
updates and then reboots my computer. I leave my computer on 24/7 and
sometimes I may have some unfinished work open on the computer I didn't
save. The updates don't save my work, simply closes the computer and
restarts it. They aren't doing me any favors my restarting my computer
without saving my files. More than once I've muttered uncomplimentary
phrases directed at MS. At least I wish I was warned during the daytime
that new updates would be arriving that evening so I'd be made aware of
      them.

I find it odd they'd update my PC to SP3 and not update my PC with the
hotfix. I just did a search for Office2003-kb945674-glb.exe on the hard
drive and Control panel Add/Remove and did not find it on the PC. I
consider the update incomplete if that is the case.

      Again, thank you Allen.

You are probably aware that you can disable automatic updates if you want to
manage them yourselves. Right-click the My Computer icon and choose
        Properties.
