There is no object in this control

Using Access 2007 and trying to link to or import from data in either
text files or Excel 2007 spreadsheets generates this message.

Anyone got any ideas how to get round it?

This has got to be the worst version of Access ever?

Although this article is in regards to A97/A2003 it may be of interest.

      Thanks for those.

However, the Microsoft link gives 12 (count them) steps to cure the
bug but relates to things to do with ActiveX controls; I am starting
my database from scratch, there's nothing in it and all I want to do
is either link to or import from some external data.

Two of the other links relate to databases that have "lost" something
so again not really relevant and googling for the phrase as you
suggest, and as I did prior to posting. throws up 1,220,000 hits; I
waded through the first two dozenh and none of them were relevant to
      my problem.

I will try your last link which involves re-registering
dll's.........n ot sure why I'd need to, previous versions of Access
      have been fine.

This version looks like a pig in a poke if I'm honest.

Ok, I tried the last suggestion (re-registering the accwiz.dll) and I
        get:

"the module c:\windows\syst em32\accwiz.dll was loaded but the call to
DllRegisterServ er failed with error code 0x8002801c"

Does anyone know why this is happening or what this obscure error
message actually means? Linking or importing data is one of the basic
functions of a database surely? Why isn't Access capable of doing so?

I can create a new mdb file in Access 2007 from scratch and link to an
Excel table with no difficulty or effort.

It seems that you can't. Perhaps you could describe a very few steps
that would allow anyone to replicate the problem you descirbe? In that
case we could study it. If we can't replicate it we might assume that
these is something special about your environment.

Are you running Vista with uac enabled? That could be why you're having
these problems. Not enough permissions. Can't register a dll and you won't
be warned that it didn't register.

Ok, selecting New Office Document from the Start menu gives me the
option to create a blank database.

Which I do and I name it test.mdb and save it to my desktop.

Opening it defaults to something about "certain content in this
database has been disabled" but I can turn off the Microsoft nanny-
state by telling the database I want the content enabled.

Next I use the "external data" option on the ribbon and select an
Excel file. I navigate to the desktop where the Excel file also lives
and double click on it at which point the error message appears.

                for what it's worth .. a dam ... half a dam?

I tried this within and without trusted folders. I could not reproduce
                the behaviour you describe.

If this were happening to me I would examine:
                1. my Microsoft updates for both the OS and Office 2007;
                2. my anti-virus software (reports here in CDMA are that both
Symantec and McAfee are so intrusive that MS-Access can be compromised
                by them);
                3. my taskmanager to see if something that might impact on this is
                running;
                4. some utility like HijackThis or Autoruns to see what might be
running on open that could impact on this (screwing around with
Autoruns without much knowledge can very negatively affect the
operation of a computer, to the point where it and a pumpkin act in
                the same fashion!).

Since you ignored my question, I'll assume you aren't running Vista. Log in
as an admin and try repairing your Access 2007 installation with the Office
2007 cd. Make sure office 2007 sp1 is also installed.

I got this error after installing some non-Microsoft software. Somehow
                    the date
fields on my forms got deleted. I deleted the blank field where the
                    date field
was, selected the AVAILABLE FIELDS tab and reinserted the original
                    field.
                    Problem solved.

There may be a field missing. Make sure all the fields are there. Hope
                    this
                    helps.
