    Master and Replica

    Okay -

so, I made some design changes in my Master Document and when I tried to synch them with the replica it told me that I couldn't (because I made design changes).

I can't change the design of the replica, because it's not the master (in order to make them synch up).

I can't just create a new replica because (even though I told them not to!) other users in my office have used the replica instead of the master to update information.

    Paula,
Unless you can use a third party tool like the TSI Unreplicator (http://www.trigeminal.com/lang/1033/...asp?ItemID=7#7 ) to convert a replica into a useable database file, you probably will have to delete your existing replicas and create a new replica from your design master.

If you follow Microsoft's instructions (see link below), you are supposed to synch the master with all replicas before making any design changes in the master. In the event that you did not do that, and you can't get the master to synch with the replicas (following Microsofts instructions in the article ), you will have to delete all unsynched replicas and create new ones.

Quote from Microsoft: "Whenever you change the schema at the Design Master, problems may occur when you synchronize with other replicas. Those problems may range from simple synchronization errors to more complex design errors. It is possible to create a situation where you can no longer synchronize with another replica, and you must delete and re-create it."
