    Workgroup Security

I have created an .mdw file and thru Security Wizard and created a shortcut for people to put on there Desktop so they don't have to Join the Workgroup, because we have other Access Databases that can be left un-secure, so I didn't want to have to log in everytime. However, I noticed when someone not using the shortcut and double clicked into the actual .mdb that it opened for them and didn't prompt them for a password. They couldn't open certain forms and edit changes but they could pull reports and add new users and such.

My Question: How Do I secure that database from a random person going into that .mdb file. Where it either denies that person from even opening it or prompts for a user name/password as it does for me.

    Thanks very much,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

    1. you should protect your Back-end database with the password
-that way random people could not open it
    2. That Back-end database should be joined with the .mdw file you created
    3. User interfaces should be stored localy for every user

I use the same system and it works great:
    -The database is password protected.
-Users can open .mdw file and only change their own password because their accounts don't have admin permissions
-All other Access projects can be accessed without Log on needed.

    Hope it helps
    H.
