    Splitting a DB?

    Hello All,

There are alot of threads explaining how to split a data base. My question is at what point does the developer decide that the split is necessary? Secondly, what are the pro's and con's of such an action? I have designed a dozen or so db's but, haven't deemed this action critical in their evolution.

    Bender,

There are several reasons one might split there database. One of the primary ones being data security and protection. Additionally, if you have multiple users using the same database it helps cut down on lockouts. Check this page out as it got into the basics of why and how to split a database as well as some pros and cons.

    Hope this helps.
